Some collections are born from inspiration. This one was born from love.
When I started Nomar. I wanted to create more than beautiful jewelry. I wanted every piece to carry meaning — something you could feel when you held it, something that reminded you why handmade things matter. But it wasn't until I lost my only brother to sarcoma that I discovered how deeply a piece can carry love, memory, and legacy.
This is the story behind Light the Way™.
A Brother, a Fight, and a Promise
My brother, Luis Alberto, was only 29 years old when he lost his battle with Stage IV sarcoma on September 5, 2023.
For nearly eight months, we searched for answers. From the very first symptoms, our family faced uncertainty, appointments, test, and the hope that we would eventually find a solution. Like many people affected by rare cancers, getting and accurate diagnosis took far longer than it should have.
When doctors finally identified the disease as Stage IV sarcoma, the cancer had already progressed aggressively. Just one week after receiving his diagnosis, my brother passed away.
In his final days, he chose palliative care, focusing on comfort, dignity, and time with the people he loved. Watching someone you love spend months searching for answers only to lose them so quickly is a heartbreak that stays with you forever.
Yet, amidst the heartbreak, we were given an incredible gift.
Luis Alberto had the opportunity to say goodbye. He shared precious moments with our parents, with me, and with family and friends he loved most. In his final days, he filled our heart with words of love, gratitude and peace.
I still treasure the voice messages he left behind –messages that have become some of our family's most cherished gifts. They remind us of his strength, his faith, and the love he carried for each of us.
While losing him was one of the hardest experiences of our lives, we were blessed with the chance to walk beside him, to tell him how deeply he was loved, and to learn what it means to let someone go with love. We gave him our blessing to leave peacefully, surrounded by the people who mattered most to him, and that gift of farewell is something we will carry with us forever.
Sarcoma is a rare and aggressive cancer that affects the bones and soft tissues. It accounts for about 1% of all adult cancers — which means research funding is scarce, awareness is low, and families facing a diagnosis often feel profoundly alone. I know that feeling firsthand.
After losing my brother, I made a promise that his light would continue to shine. I couldn't change what happened, but I could honor his memory and help bring awareness to a disease that too often goes unnoticed.
That promise became Light the Way™.
What Light the Way™ Means
Each piece in the Light the Way™ collection is carefully selected and custom engraved in our studio with messages of hope, strength, and encouragement.
80% of profits from every Light the Way™ purchase are donated to the Sarcoma Foundation of America, helping fund research, raise awareness, and support families affected by sarcoma.
When you wear a Light the Way piece, you're not simply wearing jewelry. Your're carrying a message of hope, honoring lives touched by sarcoma, and helping bring light to others who may need it most.
Words That Matter
Each Light the Ways™ piece begins as a high-quality stainless steel piece and is custom engraved in our studio with words fo hope, strength, and encouragement.
The message engraved on these bracelets were chosen fo the moments when life feels uncertain, heavy, or overwhelming. Sometimes a few simple words can remind us to keep going, to trust the journey, and to hold on to hope.
Many people wear them as a personal source of encouragement. Others give them as gift to someone navigating grief, illness, loss, or a difficult chapter in life. Whatever the reason, each piece carries a message meant to bring light when it's needed most.
